Helpful Discipline

Helpful Discipline is a replacement for punishment. If your child needs disciplining for poor behaviour, rather than giving a punishment that creates bitterness and resentment, temporarily remove a privilege that your child values, )such as watching a video or playing on-line games). Then, with your child, negotiate what helpful chores your child will need to do to have the privilege restored. Completing chores that are helpful to your family can actually release dopamine in the brain, making your child feel better about regaining his/her privilege.
