To teach individuals the neuroscience and neuropsychology of how emotions work, how to identify a range of emotions in self and others, and how to manage emotions, with a view to improving emotion management, becoming a positive affect individual, and ultimately modeling it to others. The focus of this program is to a) hold workshops on emotional literacy for groups of people who would otherwise not have access to the knowledge and practice of emotional literacy and b) to improve personal and familial emotional functioning and well-being.
The program consists of a series of six workshops on emotional literacy for individuals, with an option for participants to meet bi-weekly thereafter as a support group to further learn and practice emotion regulation strategies and skills. The program provides free childcare for the duration of the workshops if needed, and supplies snacks and meals for all the individuals. Participants receive a certificate after the completion of the 6-week program.
NELP also delivers one-day seminars for groups wanting professional development, such as for childcare workers, foster parents, teachers, and counsellors. Topics include Self-Care for Care Givers, Neuroscience of Emotion for Humans, Affect Regulation for Teachers, A Primer in Neuro Emotional Literacy, and a new workshop titled, Self-Care for Residential School Survivors.
* Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most workshops, support groups and seminars are now on-line.
